Bullock Bros. was founded in 1958 by Donald Bullock.
The Business was originally under the trading name 'D.F. Bullock' and operated from
6 Russell street, Gloucester. The shop opened 9am to 9pm 6 days a week, all repairs
were guaranteed, a first for Gloucester.
The business grew rapidly and in 1960 moved to bigger and better premises at 27
St. Aldate street, Gloucester (now Kings square) and business boomed, a shop window
in the town centre improved sales and a reputation for expert repairs soon brought
repair work in from all over the country.
The business was now trading as 'Bullock Bros Ltd'. The sales and repair departments
became so busy that another shop was opened. The new shop in Barton street also
became a success and business was good.
!n 1963 new premises were located and the business moved to 29 Hucclecoat road.
(These premises are now David Burne Upholsteres)
In 1968 they left the shop on Hucclecoat road. My parents had been looking for a
house and had settled on a large property in Longlevens. The house was large enough
to house the business and so the garages of 82 Church road were converted to a
workshop, the trading name reverted to its original 'D.F. Bullock' and business was again
very good.
The business stayed at these premises for 27 years, in 1994 my parents decided to
retire to Spain. The house was sold and my parents moved to Javea, Alicante in eastern
Spain.
As my father had retired someone was needed to take over the business to prevent its
permanent closure. I had been learning the trade from my father for some years and,
at that time, was the only family member interested in the trade. I took over and
started to look for premises.
We now had very strong roots in Longlevens and wanted to stay local if possible.
Premises were soon found in longlevens on the main throughfare, Cheltenham road.
A business was still trading at these premises and so negotiations started.
On 11th November 1994 the business moved to the new premises, 132 Cheltenham
road. I had purchased the existing business, 'C&F Video Library', and after some
alterations ran both business in harmony. The original trading name ' Bullock Bros.
Electronics' was again adopted.
On 31st December 1997 'C&F Video Library' was closed. The video renatl business
had suffered nationally with most independent companies losing trade to corporate
american invasion. 'Bullock Bros. Electronics', with the premises to itself, now became
very successful.
Bullock Bros. Electronics' are the oldest independent repair shop in Gloucestershire,
a fact reported by BBC radio.
Despite being the oldest we are still leading the way in Gloucester.
